Sugiyama has dedicated more than 30 years to the development of acoustic nylon guitar. His main object has been to obtain  a clear and crystalline sound that the new nylon string age brought, after 3000 years of history of gut string. This new string opened great instrumental musical area in Brazil since 50´s.

   His workshop established in Sao Paulo, in 1974, where he met many brazilians good musicians and got valuable information about the brazilian instrumental music including samba and bossa-nova, among others. Turíbio Santos, classical guitarist and director of the Villa-Lobos Museum, has supported Sugiyama giving constructiv opinions since 1976.
